Name:Alice
Website:Mirage: A Panfandom RPG
Bio:
basics.
Alice Cecilia Liddell. 18. Born May 4, 1962. Female human.

Called?: Alice or Aly. Rutledge residents also call her a score of other things, none of which she'll answer to or acknowledge.

Sexuality: She likes boys? Alice thinks primarily in terms of Wonderland, even though it's been several years since her last visit. She's not really sexually attracted to anyone/thing yet, and the depravities of Rutledge have scarred her more than she'll admit.

history.
Alice received her first glimpse of Wonderland at the tender age of 7. In what her family would later call a "vivid hallucination" behind closed doors, she experienced this warped but colorful world through a child's eyes. She interacted with many characters, most mentionably the Cheshire Cat (who was both friend and foe with its riddling ways), the "Mad" Hatter (who threw a delightfully amsuing tea party), and the Queen of Hearts (with fits and tantrums far worse than her own, and a grown-up at that!). Alice would never admit to herself that Wonderland reminded her slightly of her own world, with all of the people reminding her of those she interacted with outside the realm.

She returned to her parent's world, bursting with fanciful images that shocked the adults in her life. Taunted at school and punished at home for these "imaginings", Alice dug mentally deeper into Wonderland. Outwardly she became a quieter child and seemed to retreat into her books and lessons. On her half-birthday that year, she stumbled through a cheval mirror in the attic and found another path into Wonderland. She met other inhabitants of the world and returned home with even more fanciful imaginings. She was never allowed back in the attic.

Alice turned 8, and shortly thereafter a fire completely destroyed her house. Her parents perished, and authorities decided her cat Dinah had caused the fire. Alice, however, had seen a black cat that felt of Wonderland both before and after the fire. It had stared at her with such hate. She was adamant about this, and the Aunt she'd been sent to live with quickly tired of Alice's "imaginings". Her half-brithday--a year since her last trip to Wonderland--was marked by her entrance to the Rutledge Asylum, a sanitorium with a terrible reputation and high patient-suicide rate. Patients called it "The Rot", and a favoured "sport" was taunting other patients to see if they'd take a leap off the 'rotting ledges'.

Alice would spend ten agonizingly long years there. She'd been there a little over 4.5 years when she turned 13 and the patients and staff decided she was old enough (and pretty enough) to be initiated into the horrors of the asylum. Alice finally knew why the sanitorium had such a high death rate. She understood, and that understanding led to what doctors would later call a psychotic break. It was also when Wonderland started getting darker, and the Queen of Hearts started going insane... but Alice would only learn of that later. This continued for 5 long years.

She saw the Cat shortly after she turned 18. At least, the scraggly, bony mass said it was the Cat. Alice believed. The Cat told her the happenings of Wonderland, the experimentation the Queen had started doing on her subjects. Drugs to alter the minds of some inhabitants to make them the Queen's willing subjects.

Alice was the only one that could save them. The Cat knew why, but wasn't telling. She agreed. She didn't want the world she knew and loved to be taken over by darkness such as what ruled her time in the asylum. They made a plan, and in the execution of it Alice was pulled to Mirage, alone and quite terrified.

personality.
Alice grew up with a bright, bubbly, even friendly personality. She did, however, become easily frustrated, and frustration quickly led to fits of childish temper. These traits were prominent when Alice first glimpsed Wonderland, and the further warping from her time there have cemented those traits as the "core" of a personality that would prove to be easily molded in her younger years, and rather fluid as she aged. The death of her parents and destruction of life as she knew it that occured the spring after her trip through the looking glass were incredibly traumatizing and added new dimensions to her 8-year-old psyche--stubbornness, anger, a temper that quickly led to destructive tendencies, and more than a small bit of paranoia. Dinah hadn't caused that fire, no matter what the authorities said. There HAD been a black cat there, and it HAD been eyeing her with hate. She knew it and refused to budge. Her first half-birthday after her last visit was marked by her entrance into the horrors of Rutledge Asylum.

She would spend ten agonizingly long years there. Rutledge had a bad reputation for a reason, and shortly after her 13th birthday the residents at "The Rot" would decide the girl was old enough to be initiated into the goings-on. Unspeakable horrors awaited her, and some of the things she was subjected to by other patients and the staff would scar her soul and push her ever closer to the abyss. Her mind started cracking. Alice's outlandish hair, makeup, and clothing are a very visible showing of her tumoil. She is still bright, and bubbly... even friendly on occasion, but everything with Alice is "over-the-top" and her moods are easily read by her day-to-day physical appearance, from trapped faery to the imperious Queen of Hearts.

[Alice is not fully aware of all of this]
Alice's "break" with reality sent Wonderland spiraling into darkness. The Queen of Hearts was actually Alice--at least, the darker parts of Alice, the ones the girl tried desperately to hide from the Outer World. The things she was told was "bad", things she was punished for. The depravities of the asylum and her darker, baser reactions to them shaped Wonderland and its inhabitants... for the worse.
